6 audio inputs
This is used for configuring and connection the MusicBox
6 IR control outputs
These outputs are intended for direct connection to blink emitters for the control of sources and AV amps by means of controller-generated IR signals and source-specific IR passthrough. Any output can be assigned to any source.
2 Global IR outputs
All 2 outputs have the same signal all IR signals from any [[zone] even if that zone is turned off. These outputs can be used for general-purpose IR relay of signals from the zones.
Lighting control in all zones
The RoomBox 6 can be used to control compatible systems from the VideoPad AV from which it is possible to select on of a number of preset scenes. The RoomBox 6 can also control compatible systems using RoomEvents

More than 6 zones
The RoomBox 6 was designed to be a 6-zone controller. No expansion to more than 6 zones was envisaged. It is possible, however, to use more than one RoomBox 6 to control more that 6 zones, although there are some limitations.
Two or more complete systems
One way of dealing with multiple RoomBox 6s is to have two, or more, complete systems, each with its own sources. In this case the RooomBoxes can each be configured differently to suit their application.
Combining two or more RoomBox 6s into one system
As stated above, the RoomBox 6 was not designed with this possibility in mind so there are some limitations but many of these can be worked around.
Generally it is best to configure the sources for all the RoomBoxes to be exactly the same. The zone configuration can vary from box to box. It is worth entering the zone names when configuring the zones.
All source outputs should be split using phono splitters and connected to the same inputs on all boxes. For example the radio tuner could be connected to input 1 on all the RoomBoxes.
MusicBox and Studio series
A special lead is required to connect a MusicBox (or Studio series) to two RoomBox 6s. These are no longer held in stock. Alternatively it is possible to connect one RoomBox to the serial port on the MusicBox and the other, via a USB to serial converter to one of the USB ports on the MusicBox. This may require a software update for the MusicBox.
For the 'all off' function to work on all zones on a multi-RoomBox system it is necessary to connect the two jack sockets labelled D-link together with a jack to jack lead. If you RoomBoxes to not have this socket, 'all off' will only work for all zones on the box from which it is called.
The RoomBox 6 must be configured with the RoomBox 6 PC configuration software before it can be used.
Updating the firmware
This requires a new chip from Living Control
It is possible to disable most of the front panel functions by selecting 'Lockout' from the from panel menu. This prevents accidental changing of settings
To get out of lockout, connect pins 2 and 3 of the RS232 port and reboot the unit. Then go into the menu system and disable lockout. It is often easiest to disconnect the lead the MusicBox to the RoomBox at the MusicBox end and connect pins 2 and 3 in the cable connector. The pin numbers are usually marked on the connector in very small writing. No damage will be caused if the wrong two pins are connected together.
